Our Home the Earth: Opening Keynote Speech by Nacho Dean

Join us this morning at 11AM for the Opening Keynote Speech, "Our Home the Earth", by Earth Ambassador Nacho Dean - the first person in history to have walked around the world and swam the 5 continents. Click HERE to connect.

Remember to join the movement and pledge to make an impact in your day-to-day life through sustainable actions. Together, we can rewrite our future.

Your Actions Are a Reflection of Who We Are

How much plastic do you use every day? Did you know that more than 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills and incinerators every day? You can be a part of the IE ME|WE movement and start thinking more about how your personal habits impact your community. Together we can rewrite our future, and bring about a fundamental shift in how we think and act toward one another and the planet. Watch this ME|WE video HERE.

Banco de Alimentos Campaign

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we are launching a gratitude campaign and inviting the entire IE Community to participate. We have partnered with the Banco de Alimentos to open an online food drive to help people who are in poverty and at risk of social exclusion in the Community of Madrid. Would you like to support and contribute to this initiative?

Due to Covid-19, this year food donations will be made through financial contributions to the Food Bank. The 'Gran Recogida de Alimentos' 2020 will take place from November 18th to 26th. Click here.

The Nurture Hub Project

The Nurture Hub is an ecosystem project composed of living structures, known as ‘Growrooms.’ The objective of the project is to create interactive and relaxing spaces for students, all while increasing awareness and attracting pollinators to Segovia. These physical spaces inside the university will allow students to gain knowledge about biodiversity and its importance in today’s world. Giving students a sense of stewardship facilitates making wise decisions and thinking about the environment first and foremost - even when addressing their personal needs. Click here to learn more.

IE Library: A Commitment to Sustainability

For over a decade, the library has acquired and developed its full collection online. As a pioneer in disruptive technology and innovation to enhance the UX, the IE Virtual Library is available 24/7 from anywhere, at any time.

Please tune in during Sustainability Week to hear more about the IE Library’s commitment to sustainability and the materials and technological tools available to the IE Community: Monday, November 23rd, at 16:30 h.

Student Sustainability Talk: IE School of Architecture and Design

The third official Student Sustainability Talk, led by Architecture students Danielle White, Sebastian Arguello, Clara Gade and Professor Cem Kayatekin, was a great success. Participants discussed the permaculture concept, what a sustainable future could look like, and the methods required to get there. Inspired by a video with David Holmgren, co-originator of the permaculture concept, conversations flowed freely over topics such as energy descent, the under-crowding phenomenon, agriculture as the center of human culture and many more. As it was necessary to be in a virtual format, this “obstacle-turned-opportunity” enabled expanded participation. Other universities were welcomed to participate, creating a record turnout. Passionate students from Penn State University, Auburn University and the University of Oregon joined this semester's talk. The laid back format allowed students to take the reins, speak their minds and share stimulating perspectives from across the globe.

Alumni Taking the Lead: Marta Cálix

After having completed a Global MBA at IE Business School, Marta Cálix wanted to help leverage and bring together the community of alumni interested in new practices that aim to meet social needs in a better way than the existing solutions, as well as other sustainability-related topics. As a result, she and others from her class created the IE Alumni Sustainability and Social Innovation Club, whose main goals are to share information, network and help catalyze action on the ground for the SDGs. Marta currently works in biodiversity restoration in Portugal and is one of the IE Faces of Change. To hear more exceptional alumni stories like Marta’s visit EPIC, an initiative launched by the Global Alumni Relations department with aim to share the stories of our outstanding alumni from across all IE Schools and programs to inspire the IE Community.
